Cultivating Resilience

Speakers:  Dr. Lori Ryan,  Dr. Shelly Melia

This presentation will define resilience and identify five key protective factors that promote resilience. A hands on assessment tool will be provided to demonstrate operationalizing resilience in clients. The utilization of this instrument can be used as a tool to cultivate resilience.

 Dr. Lori Ryan
 

Dr. Lori Ryan, LPC

Lori Ryan, PhD is a licensed professional counselor and adjunct professor at Dallas Baptist University and B H Carroll Theological Institute. She has been counseling at Promises Counseling Center in Burleson Texas for 13 years. Dr. Ryan is an EMDR and Brainspotting trained therapist and her primary focus is trauma recovery. Her research focus is on resilience. She also holds a certificate in interpersonal neurobiology. When not working Lori enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family.

Dr. Shelly Melia
 

Dr. Shelly Melia, LPC

Dr. Shelly Melia is the Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Ministry at Dallas Baptist University. She served in the local church in children’s and family ministry for over 25 years prior to coming to DBU to lead the Master of Arts in Children’s Ministry and the Master of Arts in Family Ministry. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and serves as a Professor of Childhood Education at DBU. She is the proud mom of three children: Nathan, Lexi, and Braden.
